Preparing for Navcon2k4. Spent the day refining the extraction of DNA from bananas, tried using Bacardi but have retreated to 95% alcohol and Dynamo. Have had to send the following message to the programme organisers, who have promised to cultivate a population of wingless Drosophila melanogaster for Tuesday's workshop. Hope that it is threatening enough to galvanise them - for I suspect that they have trivialised our requests for specific support materials - "Will also need 20kg of bananas and 35 pottles of Drosophila melanogaster."
"Am anxious about the fruit flies, how many have you managed to cultivate? Am hoping that you have tilted at the wingless variety since am still unconvinced about your claims to black belt mastery with sieves. Wonder if you are you alert to the difference between wingless and vestigial winged Drosophila? Could be quite a significant distinction in the next 48 hours.
Must alert you to the fact that I intend to be quite open as to the reasons why pre conference workshop participants expectations may not have not been met. Do have a back up supplies of blow flies and houseflies, and what appears to me to be an alarmingly large quantity of bananas, but this will not protect you from complaints from the disappointed, if you fail to front with the flies.
Will have to find enough black Tshirts to last the week without access to a washing machine. Johnson, Johnson, and Smith (1997) report on enriching instruction through intellectual conflict. Is apparent that I must expect to be enriched by the challenge of locating them before I leave tomorrow.
